Peringalkuthu dam first hydro electric power project in thrissur
Peringalkuthu dam is located in thrissur district on the way to athirappalli waterfalls, the dam is built across chalakkudy river, this river is the fourth largest river in kerala. it also exhibits the peringalkuthu hydro electric power project which is the first hydro electric power project in thrissur. perinagalkuthu damm is established in 1957, after one year the formation of the state but the peechi dam is the first project after the formation of kerala state. the length of the dam is 290 meter and the height is 23 meter. the dam lies in a dense forest and hence it need the special permission from the authorities for the entry to dam.
peringalkuthu hydroelectric power project is also the first project in chalakkudy river, the reservoir of the dam provides a vast area for boating. during the time of boat riding through this water source you can enjoy the greater beauty of the forests which belong to the dam and the reservoir. it will be a nice experience for you. the boating is conducted by the kerala tourism department and it will be allowed for the visitors from morning 9 till 5.o clock regularly. if you plan a trip to thrissur you must visit the place and near by waterfalls especially athirappalli waterfalls, which give a best view to this dam from that point.
Kerala state electricity board administrates and maintains the hydroelectric project of peringalkuthu. the constructionn was initiated in 1949 and inaugurated at the same year when the sate electricity board born Cochin international airport is the nearest airport from the destination. it is 57 km far from the dam. the nearest major railway stations are chalakkudy and thrissur they are situated at the distances of 42 and 72 km respectively.
