Peppara dam and wild life sanctuary at the banks of karamana river
Peppara dam and wild life sanctuary is a tourist spot at thiruvananthapuram district, these two are joined together welcomes the visitors who love nature. the peppara wildlife sanctuary situated 39 km away from trivandrum city which spread over an area of 39 square kilometer, the dam is occupied inside the sanctuary, the dam is constructed over karamana river, trivandrum city is also located at the banks of karamana river, the water from this reservoir is very help full for the peoples living near places. peppara is certified as sanctuary in 1983 and also the dam commissioned in the same year. It located along with western ghats in trivandrum. The destination is situated at ponmudi road.
The sanctuary includes variety of flaura and fauna, the different kind of species include leopard, Asian elephant, lion tailed macaque, sambar, monkeys, nilgiri langur, nilgiri thar etc and there is also variety birds including our state bird horn bill. reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, insects are also found here.it shows some resembles with malambuzha not in climate, both of them located at western ghats and the dam and sanctuary joined together. the sanctuary is rich with a lot of evergreen forests, herbs, shrubs etc.
peppara wild life sanctuary located at nedumangad taluk in trivandrum district, aruvikkara dam is also a small dam over karamana river. the maximum water capacity of peppara dam is about 40 cubic centimeters, there is also a mini hydro electric project by KSEB have the ability 3 MW. there is a check post at the entrance of dam, during the check in time, visitors must write their name and address here, it necessary for the entry and exit.trivandrum international airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 35 km also trivandrum is the closest railway station at the same distance.
