Kanjirapuzha Dam – boating and fishing at the valley of hills
Kanjirapuzha Dam is built over the river kanjirappuzha which is a tributary to river bharathaappuzha. at mannarkad taluk of palakkad district which is located 34 km away from palakkad, kanjirappuzha dam is a masonry earh dam for solving the irrigation needs of the villagers found in mannarkad. the reservoir of the dam and the surrounding hills are the tourist attraction offered at kanjirappuzha dam. the evergreen forest named vettilachola is surrounds the dam and reservoir. the dam has a catchment area of 7000 hectares. here three main islands lies in the reservoir of the dam which is operated as a fishing center by the fisheries department of government of kerala.
Fish farming using coracles are takes place at the morning.There is an awesome garden situated belongs to the reservoir of Kanjirapuzha Dam which provides best picturesque beauty to the visitors who reach at the dam. there is a children’s park established along with the dam and wonders the eyes of the viewers by the colorful garden with flowering plants. boating in the reservoir of the dam is the main attraction offered by the tourism department. the hills surrounds the dam is actually a top point which provide a view to the valley of kanjirappuzha especially the sight from the top to St.Sebastian’s church at the valley is very beautiful.
There are two main canal systems to drawn water from the reservoir. the walk ways of the garden is decorated with green meadow. Mannarkkad is the nearest town to kanjirppuzha dam which is 13 km away from the destination. the bus station is avilable at mannarkad connects to palakkad. the nearest railway station is at palakkad and the closest possible airport is coimbatore at a distance of 110 km. post monsoon months are the best time to visit here.
