Kanakakkunnu palace is one of the cultural and historical monument of kerala state, located at thiruvananthapuram district near to napier museum trivandrum. Kanakakunnu palace is protected under kerala tourism department to conduct dance public dance occasions and cultural programs, it is built during travancore dynasty by the king sreemoolam thirunal in 19th century to entertain the guests and serve non vegetarian food for the members of the royal family who dislike vegetarian food. after sreemoolam the king swati thirunal renovated the palace by including some additional features like tennis court, the palace and surroundings are very attractive courtyard is covered with meadows, shrubs, gardens, and bamboos etc.

Actually this is the summer palace of travancore royal family, the architectural style of viswabrahmna is reflecting throughout this palace, we know about nisagandhi open auditorium and suryakanthi auditorium, peoples are very familiar with these two places because the cultural programs and exhibition hosting regularly, these two are located in the palace compound, kerala tourism department is very careful about the preservation of this historical monument, plastics are strictly prohibited in palace compound. the palace is only open from tuesday to sunday and not in monday, there is strictly follows visiting hours from 10.00 am to 4.45 pm, there is an exception in wednesday it only opens at 1.00 pm.


There is not tough to the destination point because this is the capital city of kerala, there are many bus services to the capital from other cities of kerala. the nearest railway stations are trivandrum central, kazhakkuttam, varkkala sivagiri, pettah and kochuveli. trivandrum international air is the closest airport to Kanakakunnu palace. when you reach at trivandrum you choose a taxi or rickshaws to take the destiny, it is located in an approximate distance of 3 km from the city. indian national trust for art and cultural heritage is listed this palace as a heritage monument
