Kadalundi is a small village located along with arabian sea served as an island commonly known as goa of kerala. kadalundi located in malappuram district which is famous for bird sanctuary and beach. kadalundi vallikkunu is the first community reserve in kerala, this is a preservation point of mangroves in kerala. kadalundi bird sanctuary is one of the picnic spot in malappuram district. there are many species is surviving in the sanctuary, especially the migratory birds.
kadalundi bird sanctuary is spread over the islands of kadalundi, the sanctuary is located at the banks of kadalundi river,there is the point of kadalundipuzha joined to the arabian sea at is final stage of flow this location is actually known as kadalundi nagaram. kadalundi bird sanctuary is blessed with a lot of migratory birds and native birds. kadalundi bird sanctuary is located 200 meter above from the sea level.
There is also a hill rock adjacent to the sanctuary which provides the best view to the sea and suitable for bird watching, it also give scenic beauty to kadalundi river. and also reached at the hill top by trekking. the sanctuary is well maintained by the grama panchayath of kadalundi. the district tourism promotion council arranges the boating for the tourists in the river. the sanctuary includes some migratory birds include cormorants, gulls, terns, herons, and sandpipers. kadalundi bird sanctuary is also the habitat of some fishs, butterflies and reptiles. native birds include kingfisher, woodpecker, darters, malabar hornbill, grey hornbill etc.
December to april is the best time visit the sanctuary, because during this period we can see a lot of migratory birds in this spot. tthe nearest railway station is located at kozhikode which is 19 km away and calicut international airport is 23 km away from kadalundi.
