Jagath rakshaka perumal kovil is a main vishnu temple in tamilnadu is considered as sacred place for lord vishnu. the holy place for worshiping lord vishu is termed as divya desams. there are 108 divya desams totally found. jagath rakshaka perumal kovil is one among that divya desams. it also known as thirukoodaloor aadthurai perumal temple. it was built by medieval cholas in 8th century, so that it ranked as one of the ancient temples in tamilnadu. the prime deity lord vishnu worshiped as jagath rakshaka and his consort lakshmi devi as padmasanavalli. temple is glorified as divya prabandha.
According to the hindu legends there was a king named ambarisha who was the great devotee of lord vishnu, he did not care on his country and ruling, he involved himself to do penance to lord vishnu it was lead to lose of his kingdom. but still he continued his worship, once sage durvasa reach there during his meditation, he don’t care him. so that he affected by the curse of sage, he prays vishnu for he relief. finally he cleared from the curse and built the the temple here. there is an installation for ambarisha.
There are six daily rituals performed at jagath rakshaka perumal kovil. the sub deities of the temple are ramanujar, azhwars and garuda. it located at the banks of cauvery. vaikunda ekadashi is the main festival hosts here which is the great festival for lord vishnu usually falls in decemer or january. other main festivals in the temple are brahmotsavam and chithirai festivals. the closest airport is located at trichy which is about 91 km from jagath rakshaka perumal kovil. kubhakoanm is the nearest rail head for easily access to the destination. ayyampettai is the nearest bus stand at distance of 6 km.
