Braemore estate, the contribution of British in 19th century
Braemore estate is a popular tourist place located in trivandrum with adjacent to ponmudi hill station the beautiful plantations is located 30 km away from trivandrum, braemore estate is an old one because it was established in the colonial age of British. the name braemore is derived from their culture, braemore is actually a settlement of British at Scotland. when they made the esatate at trivandrum they also suggests that name for the estate. braemore estate was established in 1887. braemore estate is situates 300 meter above from the sea level.
The trekking is the attraction of here, there is a small trekking route which connect the braemore with ponmudi, sometimes the rare nilgiri tahr is spotted at the destiantion. except the estates of idukki and wayand such an estate in trivandrum is a rare thing, the estate is actually sprawling an area about 900 acres and which is rich with tea, rubber and coffee plantations. there is an about one and half hour travel to reach at the destination from trivandrum. when you choose your private vehicle there must pay 25 rupee at the checkpost at mankayam waterfalls. there are bus services avilable to connect trivandrum to braemore.
many scenic waterfalls focused at the destination, some of them are braemore upper waterfall, anatheri waterfall, rock garden waterfalls etc. the lush forests and grass lands is great treat for the eyes of the visitors. Ramayana cave is a top hill cave at braemore forest, it will give the pictorial view of the estate from the top, rather than the hill spot there are pilgrim canter also. a 300 year old ayyappa temple, ganapathy temple. there are two churches focused at the spot. trivandrum is the nearest city having bus station, rail head and airport at a distance of 60 km. there are regular bus services avilable to connect trivandrum with ponmudi.
