Bekal fort is one of the largest fort in kerala, surrounded with sea. it is a 300 year old building in kerala built by shivappa naikkar, there is an opening for the entrance at the south most direction, it gives the point of view to other villages in kannur. the observation tower is is built by tipu sultan. it look like a key hole spread about an area of 40 acres, beKkal fort is close relate to mysore kings, the highlight of the building is the huge walls made with red stones, the beKkal fort clearly pictured in the song sequence of the movie bombay, many other films select this as a best location. tunnels are situated at the under gorund of the fort.
This is a main tourist attraction in kasargode district, the observation point of bekal fort located inside the fort is circle shape and is about 80 feet perimeter and 30 feet height. there is a slope made to reach the top. it may be the chandragiri fort built during the same period of bekal fort. the white forth of arabian sea touch at the border of fort and pallikkara beach situated near to here. a beautiful garden seen inside the fort. visitors pay entry fee to reach the fort, there is a hanuman temple at the fort and also a muslim mosque installed here.
It is believed that the fort built to prevent the activities of enemies, here is the point of defense.The entry time starts from 9 to 5 daily. it will ake 2- 3 hours to cover the full area of this fort. bekal fort located 16 km from kasargod. kasargod railway station is the nearest railway station. this is the best preserved monument of kerala archeological department. if you reach kasargode you must this place and enjoy the beauty of bakel fort.
