Attappadi is a greatest tribal settlement in kerala, which blessed with the nature beauty. the village is covered with mountains, forests, water streams, rivers, temples etc. attappady is located at the north eastern side of palakkad near mannarkkad. the area is spread over an area about 745 sq km. attappady is one of the reserved forest in kerala located at the banks of the river bhavani, the feature of the river which flowing eastern direction from the state. bhavani river is originate from tamilnadu flowing through kerala and finally falls down to tamil nadu, which is a tributary river of kaveri.
The forest range belongs to nilgiri biosphere reserve along with western ghats, it shows its greater beauty to the forest area.There are many tribals settled in the village includes irulas, mudugas, kurumbas etc. they are lived in the traditional home made with cheap natural raw materials available from the forest. there are many traditional art forms and music is conducted by the tribes at the forest especially some festival days. the tribes of attappadi worship a great mountain peak which served as the deity for the villagers in the name of lord shiva.
which known as malleswaran. the huge statue of lord shiva worship by the tribes and the shivarathri festival is celebrated in a grand way. there is an ayyappan temple at agali. Malleswara peak is the tourist attraction for the visitors and also the tributary rivers of kaveri is found at this village. There is also a space for the goat farm which has the special breed of goats known as attappadi black. palakkad is the nearest town which is 40 km away from attappady and having both the rail head and the bus station. Coimbatore is the nearest airport in tamil nadu state at a distance of 60 km from palakkad.
