Arakkal museum is one of the well known museum in kerala, arakkal is the only muslim royal family in kerala. located at arakkal in kannur district. the palace is close relate to the history of malabar in old days.
The origin of arakkal kingdom is an interesting story, a brahmin lady belong to valluva konathiri kingdom, she was bathing in ezhimala river, during that time she deeply gone downwards in the river, a muslim man he was the member of aryan parambu family and he was also the head of the chief of the valluva kingdom. he saved the life of that lady but she was refused from her family. samoothiri married her to him and give the properties to them and also give the arakkal palace.
The darbar hall of the arakkal palce renewed as museum in 2005 and open for the public, however the palace owned by arakkal family still now, not the kerala government. darbar hall served as museum, inside the museum there are somany wood tables and chairs in a royal manner. historical documents, royal emblem, weapons, equipment, lamps, royal chair,coin, telephone and the gallery of the royal family members are the attraction of the palace. the roof work are very solid, is made of wood.
it located 3 km away from kannur in ayikkara, the nearest railway station is located at kannur is about 3 km from here and the calicut international airport is the closest airway to reach here at a distance of 112 km. when you reach at kannur there are many private and public services available to locate at ayikkara where the museum is found.
